The
Shriners Burn
Hospital for Children in Galveston
is constantly striving to improve quality of life for children with burn
injuries. It’s impressive to see the amount of research accomplished by
Shriners Hospitals, and how much Shriners patients have benefited from
that research.
Each
year, thousands of children are severely burned and require specialized
treatment for their injuries. Since Shriners hospitals first made the
commitment to advancing burn treatment by opening burn centers in the
1960s, over 45,000 children world wide have received care at Shriners
burns hospitals.
It was only a few decades ago that children with severe burns had little
chance of survival.
Today,
they are being saved and rehabilitated, thanks to the great advances
made by Shriners Hospital-related burn research. The areas being studied
include methods of treating certain respiratory ailments in patients
with severe burns, and understanding the nutritional needs of burn
patients. As a result of these and other ongoing research projects, the
outlook for children suffering the agony of severe burns has greatly
improved.
As a longtime benefactor of the hospital, TSSA takes great pride in
being a part of that legacy, and will continue to do so into the future.
Be sure to participate in our next fundraiser, which will take place at
the 2008 Convention and Trade Show in San Antonio from November 9-12.
